Click Next below to go to the Income Section: Introduction, "How Do I Make Money?" Income: How Do I Make Money? "If I become a GSS Certified Broker, how do I make money?" That's the number one question asked of us. To better understand how you make money, first let's review what it takes to work as a broker in any business. The Dictionary defines a broker as: "One who transacts business for another and receives payment." Simply put, a broker represents a buyer or a seller or both and, of course, collects a fee for the service. There are many different types of brokers but essentially all are covered under this definition. Traditionally, a broker calls on customers, mails letters, sends out brochures, maybe gets on an airplane or travels by car, shakes hands, displays products, pounds the pavement, maybe sees 20 or 30 clients a week and makes a "living." Is "just making a living" enough anymore?Well, "just making a living" isn't what GSS does and it certainly isn't what being a GSS Certified Broker is all about. Times have changed and so has our business. Today, the typical GSS Broker connects with 20 or 30 clients and potentially tens of thousands more in just a few minutes. And making money isn't just about selling products, goods or services. Many GSS Certified Brokers make much more than "just a living" and don't sell anything at all. Click Next below to go to the Income Section: Page One, Defining the Market Income, Page One: Defining the Market Think Global Probably the biggest misconception everyone makes when they consider becoming a Trade Broker is that they underestimate the business and limit their thinking to the domestic marketplace. This is a mistake. GSS functions in a global economy and whether you realize it or not, you do too. Chances are, if you look around the room you're in you'll see products from everywhere in the world. Raw materials from one country, components or parts from another, assembly in a third and so it goes. But where a product is from is just a very small part of the earnings equation. The steps a product takes from raw material to finished product is what is important. Each step represents an opportunity to make money.Consider what it takes to manufacture, distribute and retail any product. Each and every step of the trade process is arranged by a broker -- from raw materials acquisition, to locating parts and components, to contracting labor, to purchasing equipment and tools, to arranging packaging, to scheduling shipping, to securing funding -- every step is brokered and fees are earned. Remember too, that many steps in the process are repeated over and over as materials move from company to company. Use as example the GSS Certified Broker who received an inquiry from an Asian Grocery company that wanted a frozen food product made to their specifications and packaged under their label. Using the GSS Product Locator, the Broker quickly found several sources that could provide the product and another who could produce the packaging. She earned three separate fees from this transaction; one from the buyer, one from seller and one from the packager. Better yet, the buyer was so pleased with the deal and the service she provided that they offered her more contracts and many repeat orders, and became one of her best clients. Click Next below to go to the Income Section: Page Two, Finding Your Place in the Market Income: Page Two, Finding Your Place in the Market GSS Certified Brokers provide services for their clients in every corner of the globe. Literally the whole world is your market. Brokers are able to work successfully in so many areas by using the business platform, tools, resources and marketing systems created by Global Secure Services. The question is: What do you want? Certainly, an important question and one that you should make sure you answer before you commit to any business. Over the years we've discovered typical questions that potential brokers ask themselves. These questions include: What part of the world do you have an interest in? Well, if you're thinking about relocation you can work anywhere you have phone and computer access. The majority of our brokers work from their home offices but many travel extensively and use a laptop and a cell phone to conduct business. More importantly the question really asks what areas of the world do you want to do business with? That's really up to you. The GSS business platform gives you the tools to work from anywhere with anyone. New auto parts from South Korea to the USA? - sure. Used farm equipment from Canada to Nigeria? - no problem. Apples from New Zealand to the European Commonwealth? - definitely. 300,000 metric tons of refined sugar from Brazil to Japan? - absolutely! The examples go on and on, the point is actually you can work anywhere with anyone with any products you choose. Most importantly it means that you're not limited. You can broker anything to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Do you have relatives, friends or contacts in other parts of the world? Think about who you know. Contacts are always valuable. Your connections with other people in other parts of the country or the world can lead to deals or, better yet, long term relationships. Are you familiar with another economic system or economic culture? Have you traveled, lived or worked in another country? Do you have military experience, stationed overseas? Do you know the geography, the culture, the needs of other people? What an advantage! Use your knowledge. Do you speak a foreign language? Another asset that could lead to many opportunities. For example, one broker with a client from Brazil who spoke only Portuguese partnered with another broker who was fluent in the language. Together they expanded the account and created a long term relationship with the client. What are your income goals? A very important point to consider. If your goals are to make large money then make your move to larger trades and situations. It sounds fundamental but you'd be surprised how many people limit themselves and their incomes by thinking small. Above all, make sure you ask yourself the question: What do I want? Make an outline of what is important to you. Write down all of your questions. Discuss your goals and concerns with your GSS Information Specialist. If your goals are reasonable and within reach, we'll map out and develop a plan to get you where you want to go. All Broker names have been abbreviated to protect privacy. GSS Certified Broker "Alan" has a client that owns a clothing store. Alan E-mails a PID (Product Information Disclosure) for a liquidation of brand name major label blue jeans that he found listed in the GSS Product Locator. Broker Alan Sells @ $7.00 per unit GSS Broker Cost @ $3.85 per unit Broker Alan's Profit @ $3.15 per unit Broker Alan's customer orders x 250 units Broker Alan's total profit: $787.50 From the GSS lead referral, GSS Certified Broker "George" receives a request for 200 metric tons of Parboiled Rice (less than 5% broken) at $175 US per metric ton packaged as 50 kg per bag. George immediately posts this request to the GSS Product Locator and receives a number of responses. After several phone calls and E-mails, George is able to negotiate a firm price of $157.60 US/MT (metric ton). Broker George Sells @ $175.00 per metric ton Supplier Cost @ $157.60 per metric ton Broker George's Profit @ $17.40 per metric ton Broker George's customer orders x 200 metric tons Broker George's total profit: $3,480. After George successfully filled this order, the next month the client placed a buy order for 500 MT of Parboiled Rice and has since renewed that order on a regular basis. GSS Certified Broker "Valerie" has a regional sporting goods chain store in her client list. After a poor snow season the chain has a large quantity of ski boots left in stock that they have to liquidate immediately. They ask Valerie for a solution. Valerie sends a complete description of the inventory to a GSS Dealmaker who returns a purchase proposal to her. Valerie sends the proposal on her company letterhead and arranges the deal. GSS purchases the ski boots and then lists in the GSS Product Locator. This is a Shared Equity deal with GSS and below is how Valerie is paid. GSS purchases 1800 pairs of ski boots @ $34.50 pair = $62,100. GSS sells @ $38.00 pair = $68,400. GSS & Valerie's Shared Equity Profit $6300. GSS & Valerie split profit 50/50 ÷ 2 Broker Valerie's total profit: $3,150. Note: In a Shared Equity Transaction GSS puts up all capital, takes physical inventory of the product and assumes all risks. The Broker who brings the deal to GSS, in this case, Valerie, receives 50% of GSS' profit no matter who sells the merchandise. This seasonal merchandise was sold to 2 separate retail stores, one in South America, the other in New Zealand, both in the Southern Hemisphere where the seasons are reversed. GSS Certified Broker "Alejandro's" client requests a line of vitamins and supplements made to their specifications with their store name on the label. Alejandro uses the GSS Manufacturer Locator to submit his client's specs and receives several pricing proposals. He marks up the proposals 8% and submits the figures to his buyer. The buyer negotiates the price down to yield a 6.5% profit margin and places an initial order of $31,300. Alejandro earns $2034.50 (6.5%X$31,300 = $2034.50) GSS Certified Broker "Yuan" has a client requesting warehouse space in the United Arab Emirates to use as a Distribution Center for their products. Yuan posts the request (with his company as the contact) finds a suitable space and arranges the lease transaction. Total Rental Contract (12 months x $4500=$54,000) $54,000. x 5% (standard broker fee) Yuan's Profit $2,700. The transactions listed represent a very small fraction of the number and types of transactions that occur on a daily basis.
